Teacher Training
About the School Direct Programme:
School Direct is a school-led training route into teaching and an excellent way to gain QTS and the practical skills you need to become a teacher. It enables those who have just finished a degree, or have been working in a career for many years to combine teacher training with actually doing and learning on the job.
This one-year course is based in one school for the majority of the year with a contrast setting placement. Candidates learn the art of teaching in the classroom for four days each week, guided by their mentors. Host schools are able to offer insights into their successful practices and induct trainees in line with the best of current teaching.
The Lime Trust has formed an alliance with two proven hubs to offer opportunities for students in both our Peterborough schools and in our London schools.
How does it work?
Genesis Education Trust is our London-based partner with whom we work with to provide placements for students in our Special Schools and Primary. Students train through Goldsmiths University and further information can be found at www.genesistrust.net and on the university website https://www.gold.ac.uk/pgce/
Paragon Teaching School Alliance is our Peterborough-based partner where students can train through Bishops Grosseteste University in Lincoln and we provide placements in our Primaries and Special School in and around the city of Peterborough. More information can be found at www.paragonalliance.co.uk and in the linked document in the menu on this page. Further details are available on the university website https://www.bishopg.ac.uk/
With university-led training, trainee teachers spend the majority of time in school placements with some time spent on academic-based learning throughout the year. Courses, some of which are salaried and some unsalaried, typically take one year and you would gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) on successfully completing a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
