Physical Education

The Lime Physical Education Curriculum is school specific.  As a Trust, we recognise that a high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities.  Our intention is to help all children make progress and succeed in physical education.  As a school, we plan our PE curriculum on a rolling 2-year programme, to structure and assess the progress made by learners across a range of sports.  Concepts are broken down into small steps allowing children to build on previous knowledge. Pupils engage in competitive activities against themselves and others to apply their learning and increase cultural capital.  We recognise that Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

In EYFS and Key Stage One, children develop fundamental movement skills to extend their agility, balance and coordination. They master basic movements then apply them in team games. Children are also challenged to perform dances and gymnastic sequences. As children move into Key Stage Two, their application of the skills becomes more precise and refined through specific sports and games.  As children progress through Key Stage Two, they receive swimming lessons to develop skills and confidence to reach age related expectations.

Retrieval is a vital component of the curriculum sequencing.  Prior learning is drawn upon, wherever the content is taught.

The Lime PE Curriculum, which is planned in school ensures specific and associated subject vocabulary is planned sequentially and cumulatively from throughout each year group.
